The Fishery

Powdermills reservoir is a 56 acre reservoir located in the heart of the peaceful Sedlescombe countryside. Powdermills reservoir is a well stocked trout fishery that holds some large fish with stocking taking place on weekly intervals. The current rainbow trout record is 15lb and the brown trout record is 10lb. The water is controlled by Hastings Fly Fishers Club. The club offer a number of facilities including a well equipped club house, boats, and a large parking area. Powdermills is ideal for disabled anglers with their needs catered for with the use of ramps, paths and a toilet suitable for wheel chair users together with a specially constructed "Wheely" boat for disabled anglers. The club house offers hot drinks and is fitted with a small cooker, a microwave, a fridge and a pay phone. Environment Agency rod licences (required) can be obtained from the bailiff Vic Partridge who also offers tuition for beginners if arranged in advance.

Rules

  1. The fisheries open at 8am (6.30am during the midsummer period)
  2. All anglers must enter their names in the catch register before starting to fish and complete the entry when they have finished fishing.
  3. Bag limits:
    - day ticket = 6 fish
    - half day ticket = 4 fish.
  4. All good sized trout must be retained and not returned to the water (the minimum length is 10 inches).
  5. Anglers must stop fishing after they have caught the bag limit of trout
  6. No second permit can be obtained after a limit bag has been caught.
  7. The permit is valid for 1 rod and line with artificial fly floating or sunk.
  8. Dapping with a blow line is allowed.
  9. Trolling of flies behind a moving boat, spinning, and threadline fishing involving the use of a controller or weight of any description attached to the line is not allowed.
  10. Ledgering on the bottom with sunk lines with static floating flies (booby flies) is not allowed.
  11. Anglers must not leave the line in the water unattended.
  12. 2 droppers only in addition to the point fly are allowed.
  13. Wading is allowed (except on the dams) - Chest waders are not allowed.
  14. Boats are not allowed within 50 metres of any fisherman, within 50 metres of the dam, and within 40 metres of any other boat.
  15. No dogs, no radios and no litter.

Directions

Powdermill Reservoir is situated in woodland between Sedlescombe, Sedlescombe Street, Cripps Corner, Broad Oak and Brede. The entrance to Powdermiill Reservoir can be found half way along the country lane (Powdermill Lane) between Sedlescombe Street (just off of the A21) and the B2089 near Broad Oak. When travelling from the Sedlescombe Street end you will need to turn onto Brede Lane which will then take you onto Powdermill Lane.
