Powdermills Reservoir is a large 56 acre reservoir set in some relaxing, tranquil countryside. The reservoirs features include, overhanging trees and bushes and a long dam wall. Fishing the banks is limited to the dam, the "cut outs" on the east bank and the area either side of the willow tree. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 35 feet at the "Valve Tower" and a near 35 feet at the centre of the Dam from where there is a small gradient up towards the Club House.

The reservoir is stocked with some monster rainbow trout to 15lb and some huge brown trout to 10lb. The brown trout seem to prefer to feed on the bottom with large numbers turning up during the two (end of season) coarse fishing days at Powdermill at which time they are, of course, all returned. Hastings Fly Fishing Club (HFFC) stock Powdermill reservoir with rainbow trout on weekly intervals throughout the season. The smallest freshly stocked trout weigh in at a minimum weight of 1lb 4oz. The majority of the fish stocked are large fish up to the weight of 8lb with a small number of double figured fish. The fish have a tendancy of swimming high in the water with some spectacular displays of acrobatics when hooked.
