Darwell Reservoir is a huge, deep 128 acre water located on the outskirts of Robertsbridge in a village called Mountfield. The water is a bit of an unknown. Darwell Reservoir had been a trout fishery since 1948 until two years ago when it became a coarse fishery. The true size of many of the reservoirs fish are still a mystery due to the vastness in size of the reservoir and the short period of time the water has been a coarse fishery. What is known is that the water holds some huge predatory fish including pike to 30lb+ and eels to 6lb+. The reservoirs carp are still a mystery. There have been many rumours of large carp but the largest reported caught carp was a common carp that weighed in at 13lb. The water also boasts a great selection of match fish with shoals of roach reaching in excess of 2lb and many dace. The bream, chub and tench are still an unknown although the trout fisherman often reported catching large chub. The reservoir still holds the odd brown and rainbow trout left over from the last 50 years of trout fishing.
