Harmers Pond Fishery

Harmers pond is located in Alexandra Park. The lake is a sussex coarse fishing venue that covers 2 acres. The lake has recently been restored and restocked to its once former glory, after receiving a grant from the national lottery fund. The swims are located on one side of the of the pond with numerous overhanging trees found on the opposite side. The water and surroundings support a lot of wildlife. Harmers pond supports a sizeable number of coarse fish for the match fisherman and the carp angler. The water is controlled by Hastings and Bexhill Angling Club but day ticket fishing is welcomed. The water has one large swim designed for disable access.

Harmers Pond - a rectangular shaped lake found in the heart of Hastings Alexandra Park.


Harmers Reservoir

Harmers is a relaxed, picturess 2 acre water. with depths of upto 8-10 feet. The reservoir is a rectanglular shaped pond with many overhanging trees located 20 metres away on the opposite side to the swims. There is a no fishing policy on the tree side banks or from the railings. The swims are flat, dirt-based pegs. Harmers Pond can hold approximately 8-10 anglers. Successful baits include boilies for the large carp, maggots, sweetcorn and lobworm for the match fish.

Harmers Pond is teaming with carp, roach, rudd after having recently being restocked after receiving funds from a lottery grant. The carp can often be seen cruising the surface in the warm summer months and hiding in the shade of the overhanging trees. Successful techniques include ledgering boilies under the trees, and surface feeding bread and dog biscuits. Surface feeding can be a little hazardous when the ducks are hungry. The average weight of each carp caught is 6lb to 12lb. The largest carp caught from Harmers Reservoir was a recently taken common carp weighing 21lb. The match fish can easily be caught by float fishing maggots, sweetcorn and lobworms.

directions

Harmers Pond is located in Hastings in Alexandra Park. To get to Hastings from the Eastbourne or Rye directions take the A259. To get to Hastings from the Tunbridge Wells direction take the A21.

A259 into Hastings: take the A21(turn onto Havelock Road) follow the road up past Summerfields Sports Centre(on right) up past the police station(on right), past the fire station(on right), past ESSO garage(on left) follow the road for another 500 metres until you reach a church on the right. Turn right into the road next to the church (Upper Park Road)/opposite S&H tackle . Follow the road round the sharp bends round the back of the park until you find on your left a gravel road that cuts back into Alexandra park. Follow gravel road to the end. Harmers pond is on the left.

A21 into Hastings: take the A21 along Seddlescombe Road North, into Silverhill. From the Silverhill traffic lights(large cross-roads junction) follow the A21(to the left) for another 500 metres until you reach a church on the left. Turn left into the road next to the church (Upper Park Road)/opposite S&H tackle. Follow the road round the sharp bends round the back of the park until you find on your left a gravel road that cuts back into Alexandra park. Follow gravel road to the end. Harmers pond is on the left.
