Iden Wood Fishery
Iden Wood Fishery is a little hidden gem of a fishery, we fished the water in August 2026, a really nice friendly
feel, lots of fish splashing and cruising about. We caught a number of Bream and Carp, we also saw some good sized
Carp being caught.
Iden Wood Fisheries is a well establised fishery that is made up of three man-made lakes and two natural lakes.
The man-made lakes are the first lake you come to, Spring Lake, the Match Lake (just below the Spring Lake) and
the Middle Lake (just below the Match Lake). The Specimen Lake is a natural lake that is the largest lake
of the fishery (just below Middle Lake), stocked with the largest fish.
The final lake is the Orchard Lake which is the furthest lake on the complex.
The water has a number of rules that must be observed which would be wise to check before fishing the waters.
Iden Wood Fishery has a policy of 'NO BOILIES, NO NUT BAITS, NO TROUT PELLETS, NO DOG BISCUITS, NO SURFACE BREAD'. The policy opens up a whole
new world of how to catch the large carp.
Fishing match bookings are available (A minimum of 10 anglers to qualify for match bookings).
I was speaking to the owner of the fishery and he was telling me that an Eel had been caught at night in a storm that was reported to weighh
just over 11lb (potentially the British record), he had seen a photo of the eel and believed it to be a genuine report. He said there aren't
many Eels which appear in the fishery but there are some big ones when they appear.
The water is open all year round.

Disabled Fishing - Middle Lake offers the posibility of fishing for disabled anglers depending on the disabilty.
Middle Lake offers fairly flat / gentle sloped swims and the ability to park close to the lake. Also located a short distance from the
bottom car park, there are a few fairly flat swims to the right of Specimen Lake which may be accessible for some disabled anglers.
From Middle Lake and Specimen Lake, the toilet block is a little bit of a trek back up the gravel track.
Toilets - There is a toilet block located at the car park next to Match Lake. The toilet block caters for male,
female and disabled anglers.
Parking - Parking available at various car parks around the site.

Match Lake is stocked with some supprisingly large fish including Common Carp and Mirror Carp
that reach 34lb, the odd Tench, Roach and Rudd to 1lb 8oz, the largest Perch on the complex
that can be caught to 4lb 4oz, and some large bream to 11lb.
Match lake is two lakes joined together with a bridged flow in between the two lakes.

The Middle Lake is a curvey doughnut shaped, 1 acre, man-made lake.
The lake has gentle sloped swims with easy access for anglers with mobility issues.
The car can be driven to close to the water.
The Middle Lake is located below the Match Lake and is accessed is further down the gravel
track near the Specimen Lake.

The Specimen Lake is a large, open, 3 acre, oval shaped natural lake. The lake has a number
of features including an island, reed beds and overhanging trees and bushes. There are approximately
20 swims that are generally either flat banked or are platformed.

Orchard Lake is the most peaceful water at Iden Wood, it is a couple of minute walk through the
woods from the Specimen Lake.
To reach Orchard Lake you need to walk to the right from the car park next to Specimen Lake
and follow Specimen Lake's water edge to the right, round the far end of Specimen Lake and
then you will find a small trodden path through the woods, follow this for a couple of minutes
until you reach Orchard Lake.
There are a sizeable number of Carp in the Orchard Lake that average 8-15lb with the largest
Carp reaching 20lb. The lake is stocked with some good
sized Perch to 2lb 8oz, and Roach / Rudd to 1lb 8oz. The water sometimes presents the odd
large eel, sometimes extremely large eel.

Iden Wood Fisheries is located in Iden Wood just off of Coldharbour Lane. Coldharbour Lane runs between
Peasmarsh (Rye Road) and Iden (Rectory La Church off of Whittersham Lane/Main Street). The fishery is
located on the left if you are travelling from the Peasmarsh end of Coldharbour Lane.
The fishery has two large low-down green signs marking the entrance directly seen from the lane.
As you pull in there is a sign saying 'knock for enquiries', to drive to the lakes you turn and take the
gravel track to your right.
