Saunders Gravel Pit (Club Only)

Saunders Gravel Pit is located in Rye near Rye Harbour. This large water contains some stunning fish for the match angler including some stunning tench to over 5lb, bream to 5lb+ and a number of roach and rudd to 2lb+. Saunders Gravel Pit also holds some beautiful specimen common and mirror carp for the carp fisherman that reach 30lb+. The water also holds small perch to 2lb+ and some large eels that have been known to reach 6lb. The water is restricted to 30 anglers at any one time. Clive Vale Angling Club (CVAC) control Saunders Gravel Pit operating a club members only policy.

Parking - Parking is just inside the fishery gate in the winter and when the marsh is unfit to drive on. There are various parking spots in dry times at various areas of the lake. See the handbook for parking rules and locations.

Saunders Gravel Pit is a large, deep lake set in exposed Rye marsh. The lake edges can be very steep in places. The outline of the lake is an irregular, interesting shape. Saunders Gravel Pit can only have 30 anglers at a time but the lake has lots more space.

Rules

A close season is operation at this water. The water is open 1st June until 14th March.

Junior anglers must be accompanied by an adult.

Directions

From Hastings Direction: Take the A259 (Royal Military Road) to Rye. When you reach the end of Royal Military Road turn right onto Harbour Road - Rye Harbour Road - on the right - near first concrete factory?


From Other Directions: Take the A259 or A268 to Rye. Travel through Rye heading for Hastings. You should pass over a bridge that crosses the river Tillingam. Once you have crossed the river you will find Harbour Road 500 metres down the road on the left. Rye Harbour Road - on the right - near first concrete factory.
